We loved it! 5 of 5 stars

Me and my partner really loved everything about this place! The beautifully renovated house (la roccia), the way it was decorated, the brilliant view from the pool, the short drive to beautiful Lucca and also how nice and quit the location is. And last but not least: the really nice owners. For us Borgo della Madonnina is the best place we stayed at in Italy so far and we would absolutely stay here again.

Fantastic accommodation, peaceful and beautiful spot, super hosts 5 of 5 stars

We have just returned from Borgo della Madonnina today after a brilliant 10 day visit and can’t recommend it highly enough. If you are after a quiet and picturesque base to visit the region stay here. The cottage was perfect for two, really nicely decorated and had everything we needed for our stay including a BBQ on our private terrace and swimming pool overlooking the valley!

Lucca is only a 25 min drive and we visited several times (luckily we hit upon some great festivals that take place in September). The coast is only 45 mins drive away and great for a day of lounging in the sunshine. There are plenty of super places to eat and Adrian offered lots of suggestions and even made reservations for us.
Brilliant holiday and can’t wait to return – thanks :)

Beautiful authentic Tuscan retreat 5 of 5 stars

Rustic beautiful charming secluded authentic and peaceful – this is a real retreat. Short drive to amazing little village trattorias with delicious pasta, pizza, local wines, gelato and full menus. The historical and picturesque town of Lucca is an easy drive away, as are amazing beaches on the coast. But you could just as well just stay in the pool or on your terrace with a glass of local wine and a good book for the duration…

The houses are tasteful and comfortable Tuscan stone cottages, with amazing views from the terraces in a peaceful and genuine location with lots of history. We have returned several times, and lived in all three cottages. The tasteful and practical, fully equipped, stone cottages are in the midst of beautiful terraces and lovely greenery. This is a secluded retreat, with privacy between houses, yet only a short drive from local, lively village life nearby. We did an easy day-trip to a great beach on the coast, although we would have been super happy to just stay by the tranquil pool. The propritetors are very friendly and go out of their way to make sure guests have a lovely stay, but never in an intrusive way. They live on the property so have all the insider tips. This is the real Tuscany, and an unusually beautiful holiday spot.

A perfect Tuscan retreat 5 of 5 stars

Our Tuscan holiday at La Stalla couldn’t have been more perfect. The house was exactly what we were looking for: a base from which we could explore Tuscany, but one which we always looked forward to coming back to each evening – mostly to just sit out on the terrace and look at the stars.

The property is set high up in the hills above Lucca and so is very quiet and peaceful with stunning views across the valley. La Stalla is set slightly away from the other houses and so feels perfectly private with its small patio looking out over the steep, green hills. Inside the bedroom is comfortable and spacious for two people and downstairs consists of a lounge/living area (charmingly decorated) and a small kitchen with everything we needed to prepare whatever meals we wanted.

A car is almost essential for staying at La Stalla (or either of Adrian and Christopher’s two other beautiful houses). A large supermarket is a short drive away and Lucca, which we have completely fallen in love with, is just a little further. Having said this there is a fantastic family-run restaurant about a 500m walk from the house where we had some of our favourite meals of the trip (…and favourite bills too!). We were also able to reach Pisa and a couple of beaches in around/just under an hour.

Our only regret of the trip is that we didn’t spend more time with Adrian and Christopher who were very discreet but always on hand to offer absolutely anything we needed. We shared a drink with our hosts one evening and it was clear that they are highly passionate about this area of Italy and love to share it with their guests.
